Education & Advocacy

As parents, there is so much we feel we don't know... so much we're figuring out as we go, especially for our rainbow children.  Are we using the correct terms?  Are we making the right decisions for them?  Are we supporting them in the way they need?

There is also a lot happening at state and national levels around trans rights, gender affirming care, and the safety of our families.  It's hard to stay on top of the latest ballot measures and legislation that could impact our families.

That is why this page now exists!  It will focus on information and resources that provide education on the issues, challenges, and political decisions that impact families with trans children.

More to come soon!  For now, here is a statement from the Deputy Director of Rocky Mountain Equality, Bruce Parker, about the ballot initiatives that could have drastically impacted many of our lives.

We have a reason to celebrate!  The groups targeting our kids with anti-LGBTQ+, particularly trans, ballot initiatives fell short of collecting enough signatures. These groups and ballot initiatives are out of step with Colorado values.

This year, our community faced several anti-LGBTQ+ ballot initiatives throughout this process, including forcing teachers and schools to out kids, preventing trans youth from playing in school sports, and banning necessary medical care for trans people.  Luckily, none of these made it onto our November ballots. This is cause to celebrate and take a moment to breathe a sigh of relief.

But our work isn’t done. They’ve already said that they aren’t stopping, and you can be sure we are in for a fight again next year.

RMEQ is proudly a part of Freedom for All Coloradans, and we will continue to work in this coalition to stand against efforts to harm our community.  We will continue to win if we keep standing together against those who would harm our community, especially LGBTQ+ youth. Stand with us to show that hate has no place in Colorado.

For Equality,

Bruce Parker

RMEQ Deputy Director
